This June 30, Moscow Manege saw the grand opening of the Moscow Urban Forum themed Fast-Growing Megacities. Technologies of Dynamic Development. This major international forum on city planning and urban development is held in cooperation with the Moscow City Government and once again provides a centre point for meeting city leaders from Russia as well as the rest of the world, industry experts, architects, developers. Tashir has become Forum’s Partner for the sixth year in a row.

The event started with a plenary session with Sergey Sobyanin, Moscow Mayor, as a speaker: “This year, the Forum gathered over seventy delegations from dozens of countries and Russian regions. This is probably the most comprehensive urban forum Moscow has seen over the latest years. City development problems, as well as the growing urbanization challenges faced by cities and the billions of people inhabiting them, require much attention and thorough understanding of the processes going on in the cities. Decisions have to be made that touch upon not dozens or hundreds of people, but millions of them.”

This year’s event was special in its global dialogue of city leaders and experts on key urban trends and territory development vectors. Chief ideas included cities’ agility and adaptability in the face of intensive change; interconnection of national interests and local city policies; shifting the optics from metropolises to agglomerations and megalopolises; and moving from geographic zoning to spatial design to consider social, economic, transport, etc. connections of territories.
